GuerrillaScholar Home

This web site is for the promotion and support of independent scholars, amateur scientists, artists, and all those who enjoy the life of the mind but can't, won't, or ought not to do so within the confines of academia.

Guerrilla Scholar.com is dedicated to the proposition that to acquire knowledge, no matter how obscure, is an essential human activity, and that using our insight to improve the world is the highest expression of the human spirit.

The Guerrilla Scholar's Handbook

by Sheldon Greaves

The Guerrilla Scholar's Handbook is the working title given to a book I am working on to promote the philosophy and practice of guerrilla scholarship.

Ours is a nation of thinkers and discoverers. Learning, researching, inventing are all part of America's identity. But contrary to popular belief, a significant part of America's most interesting intellectual work takes place outside academia or corporate laboratories. These "Guerrilla Scholars" are on the outside of traditional academia. Unfortunately for them, finding support, resources, publishers, or credibility can be challenging.

Here, Guerrilla Scholars of all stripes will find out:

  • How to gain access to the perks enjoyed by academic scientists and scholars, even if you don't have a college degree.
  • How to find colleagues, get expert advice, and hidden treasures of information
  • How to find funding for any project
  • How to develop top-notch research strategies
  • How to organize and manage your work
  • How to craft your scholarship
  • How to crash disciplinary boundaries for fun and profit.

This book will be for the independent scholar, the passionate learner, the science hobbyist, the lifelong student, the activist, the writer... in short, anyone who wants to enjoy the thrill of learning and discovery, but doesn?t necessarily have (or want) access to the traditional research institutions.

This book is currently in preparation. Inquiries welcome.
